The removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) is most often performed laparoscopically, which is the gold standard for treating gallbladder inflammation. There are two methods of surgery - laparoscopic and laparotomy (open). During the laparoscopic method, 4 punctures are made in the abdomen through which special tools are used to remove the gallbladder from the liver, but when there is a high risk of damage to important liver structures, the surgeon decides to switch to open surgery (conversion) in order to preserve liver function. Many patients consider laparoscopic surgery to be laser surgery, but this is a misconception, as it is technically impossible to use a laser during this operation.
